After working 14 years in the corrections field (seven years with the Department of Corrections & seven years as the chaplain at the Linn County Jail), Pastor Barb realized that without a strong support system within the local community, former offenders have little chance of success upon release. Founded in 2002 from a vision God gave her four years earlier, Mission of Hope grew out of the unconditional love she was shown in her past - and from her heart to help hurting people.
Pastor Barb graduated from Mount Mercy College in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology & Criminal Justice. She was ordained in the United Methodist Church in 1993 & graduated in 1994 with a Master of Divinity degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary. In 2002, Pastor Barb received her full-time appointment to Mission of Hope. She faithfully served
in the ministry for 18 years, giving 13 years specifically to the ministry of
Mission of Hope until retiring in 2011. She currently resides in Florida.
